1. Sitting Posture for Typing

Right posture is very important while you type, proper sitting posture make you comfortable and your hands movements are very fast. You can see correct posture for sitting in below image:

2. Placement of fingers on Keyboard

Whether you notice or not, the 'F' and 'J' keys have a raised bar or a dot allowing your finger to identify them. Once you have placed your both index fingers on those keys, the other fingers are placed on the keys next to them. 'A' 'S' 'D' 'F' and 'J' 'K' 'L' ';' are the base positions for your fingers. Your fingers go from the base position to the key that you want to press and after pressing the key it backs at base position.

In order to type fast you have to be careful about which finger to use to press a key. Take a look at the drawing below in which each key is assigned a finger. The particular key has to be pressed with assigned key only. This layout is designed in a way that make fingers movement very fast on the keyboard.

3. Start with Home Row Practice

After sitting in correct posture and placed your fingers in base position on the keyboard. You can start your typing practice from 1^st exercise and repeat it many times. We recommend to practice only 1 or 2 exercise daily. After complete training of 1st exercise you should move to next one and carry on until you complete full course.

4. Type without seeing keyboard

You have to make sure your eye's always on screen while you typing. Don't look at keyboard, no matter how many time it takes in pressing right key. Within 1-2 days your fingers will be able to identify key position and automatically press correct key.

5. Focus on Accuracy instead of Speed

Learning typing without seeing keyboard is your goal. Accuracy should be your primary concern in starting, speed building is a secondary thing.

The placement for fingers are same for Hindi and English typing. Always use same finger to type particular character and after press that key return your finger on initial position.

Hindi Inscript Typing Rules

1. Half Characters : For type any half character in Inscript Keyboard you have to use "halant" character. Firstly make full character and then press halant (d) to make it half. For example: to type 'क्या', first type 'क' then '्' and 'या'.

2. Matras : In the Inscript Hindi keyboard, we have to type all the matras after the character with which they are to be associated is typed. This rule is applicable even with Chhoti Ee matra (ि). To write कि, you write first 'क', and then 'ि'.

3. Upper Ref : We can make upper ref ('r' on top, as in the word 'कर्म' ) can be written in two ways. First one is by typing 'र' followed by halant ' ्' or second way is pressing the English key that has the $ sign.

4. Phonetic rule of Inscript : To understand Inscript better, we should remember a Phonetic rule: All the letters are typed in just the way they are spoken. Like, when we pronounce 'कर्ता' we speak first 'क', then 'र ्' and then 'त' and finally 'ा' (matra). We have to type the letters in the same order. If they are to be displayed in a different order, the Inscript system will auto-adjust letters, and we don't need to worry about that.
